How did the Spooky Scary Skeletons dance become a craze?

Updated:

Short answer

A Halloween dance of kicks, stiff skeleton elbows and hip shakes to a 1990s Halloween song, brought back on TikTok each October. The first clips are from 2019. In 2026 it gained a vampire twist: a character in a crimson-lined cape dancing in front of a huge orange moon.

Where the dance began

It took off on TikTok in September 2019 when one creator posted it and thousands copied the moves. It's short, silly and simple, so people come back to it every autumn while hunting for Halloween content.

What happened in 2026

Early in October 2026 a comparison clip titled “2026 vs 2019” passed several million views. Pet versions came next, a dachshund puppy in a skeleton suit among them.

Around 8 October, anime fan editors added the AI vampire layer: a character dancing in front of an orange moon. Ozil Goal AI creates that version from your photo. Trends spread like a signature goal celebration, copied by every club once it catches on.

What never changes

  • A camera that stays put, with the dancer fully in view. The dancer stays centred and the camera stays low.
  • A one-foot hop and a kick to open.
  • Rigid skeleton elbows that pump on each beat.
  • Hip shakes and a cheeky pose to finish. Dancers who keep a straight face get the biggest laughs.
